Vina Alegre 2003 Spain.
An easy drinking fruity red with bags of character and charm. Grown and made in the Castille Y Leon region of Mid-Western Spain. The grape variety is Prieto Picudo which is indigenous to the Valles de Benavente area. This wine more so than any other in our range has become the House red, such is its quality / value. |

Pago De Valleoscuro 2003
Made by Bodegas Otero, one of the rising stars in the Benavente region of Western Spain. This red is blend of two grape varieties namely Tempranillo (one of the most planted throughout Iberia) and Prieto Picudo. Pago represents all that is new and dynamic about modern Spanish wine, rich in flavour with a nice touch of complexity and not an oak barrel in sight; the fruit is almost like stewed red cherries with a subtle nuance of bubblegum or candy, dangerously drinkable, designed for the BBQ now all we need is a long hot summer!

Aleno Tinto 2002
Cigales is a region which is considered to be a sleeping giant in wine terms. Many point to the high altitude and Tempranillo friendly soils when they claim its potential exceeds its more famous neighbour Ribera del Duero. A smooth velvety wine that is quite expressive on the nose, on the palette it is medium body with excellent balance of flavours, and the finish is exceptionally long.

Aleno Crianza 2000
Crianza is a Spanish term meaning nursed, or to be more precise weaned. It is a term that, when used in conjunction with wine, refers to aging wine in New Oak barrels. In Cigales a wine with Crianza printed on label must be aged in French or American oak for a minimum of 12 months and another 12 in bottle. Following this the wine can not be released on the marketplace until 3 years after the vintage. As for the wine… it is big rich full bodied with a beautiful concentrated aniseed/liquorice flavour which is pleasantly rounded off by an intense spicy finish. In a word fantastic.

Rejadorada Roble Toro 2003
Toro is a unique growing region in the Castille Y Leon region of western Spain.
The single grape used here is Tempranillo, but the locals call it Tinta Fino.
Tinta Fino is markedly different from Tempranillo.
This is all down to the Terroir of the region. High altitude (800 metres) means that searingly hot
temperatures at day time drop to freezing levels at night. This helps the vine recover from heat stress
and develop acidity. The wines are rich, full bodied and concentrated
but with acidity and tannins to balance the flavours and give structure. Rejadorada are considered by many to be
one of the best Bodegas in the whole region. We are very happy and proud to stock this wine.

Rejadorada Crianza 2001
Another Crianza from the Castille Y Leon region, but from the Toro area rather than Cigales. Made using Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) using traditional techniques of long maceration, in order to extract as much flavour and colourfrom the grapes, and barrel aging in French and American new oak. The wine is big and full of flavour, this is not to say it is unbalanced or lacks finesse. Whilst having weight and concentration there is also a strong mineral presence on the nose it is powerful and forward almost heady. A delightful wine that belies its price tag.
